If you are convicted of drunk driving, you may not face any jail time in some states. Instead, many states are now using drink driving rehabilitation programs. Statistics are showing that there are fewer repeat drink driving offences with the use of drink driving rehabilitation as an alternative to jail or prison time.
States that are implementing drink driving rehabilitation programs are using many facts and statistics that have been collected to not only make the decision to implement the programs, but also to design the programs so that they actually do rehabilitate drunk drivers.
For example, a recent poll found that most people in the United States really have no idea what the blood alcohol content laws in their state are. The average is .08%, but most people think it is .33% – which is four times over the legal limit. Drink driving rehabilitation, however, does not focus on drinking under the limit.
Instead, these courses focus on the effects of driving drunk – the affect on the drunk driver, as well as other drivers on the road at the time as well as passengers and pedestrians. Information is also given about the effect on insurance rates for everybody, as well as the effect on tax payers.
