If you are shopping for cheap car insurance, but you need drink driving insurance, you are in for several surprises. While cheap car insurance does exist, it doesn’t really exist for drink driving insurance. However, there are some things that you can do to make drink driving insurance a bit more affordable.
1. Don’t do it again. Subsequent drink driving conviction codes on your driving record will cause your insurance rates to go sky high – to the point where you cannot afford it at all. If you have a drink of alcohol, call a cab or have someone else do the driving.
2. Take an alcohol awareness class. Often, insurance companies will reduce your rate if you’ve taken such a course, even if you have drink driving offences on your driving record, provided that you took the course after the offences.
3. Take a defensive driving course. While this usually isn’t a requirement of your state after you receive a DUI conviction, it can help to lower the cost of your insurance.
4. Get all of your insurance from the same company. Insurance for your home, recreational vehicles, and cars should all come from the same agency, as you will get multiple discounts for this, which does result in cheap car insurance, regardless of what is on your driving record.
5. Review drink driving insurance rates often. Usually, once you’ve found coverage for drink driving insurance, you will not want to change companies as finding affordable insurance of this type isn’t easy – but the more time that passes since your drink driving conviction the lower the rates may be if there have been no other driving offences during that time.
Drink driving insurance is not cheap car insurance, but you can take steps to reduce the rate dramatically – and in light of the high cost of this type of insurance, you will definitely want to do everything possible to lower the cost.
