Drink Driving Bans
If you get caught driving drunk, or even driving under the influence of alcohol without actually being drunk, you need to be aware of the drink driving bans that you are about to be subjected to. When you get pulled over, if the officer thinks that you have been drinking, you may be subjected to a road side sobriety test. If you do not pass that test, you will be arrested, and at the police station, you will have to take a drink driving breath test to see which drink driving offence you will be charged with – DWI or DUI.
Once a charge has been determined, you will need to be bailed out of jail, and you will have to attend court, where you will be convicted of the crime. The drink driving breath test will ensure that you are convicted. While the drink driving bans differ from state to state, in almost all states your driver’s license will be suspended for a certain period of time.
Once the suspension time has passed, most states will require you to obtain an SR-22 before the suspension will be lifted from your license. This is purchased through an insurance company at the time when you purchase car insurance. Your state will let you know how long you must carry an SR-22.
If you have had more than one drink driving offence, you may be required to have a drink driving breath test device installed in your vehicle. Before the vehicle will start, you must blow in the tube to have your alcohol content measured.
While most people find this to be the most intrusive and annoying drink driving ban, it does have its perks – when you get drink driving insurance, if you have such a device installed, your insurance rates may be lower because the insurance company doesn’t see you as high of a risk as you would be without such a device.
